Rangi Gallery is happy to announce our next curated exhibition in partnership with @af_dar will be held at Alliance Francaise on 6th October 2021 titled Memories of The Unknown, an exhibition featuring sculptures, paintings and sound by Eltayeb Dawelbait (SU/KE) @eltayebdawelbait and Safina Kimbokota (TZ) @safinakimbokota .

While Eltayeb’s work will focus on collecting materials that have been discarded that he gives new life and value to the once forgotten materials; Safina’s work will shed light on the issues that arise as a woman is giving birth and creating new life using her own personal experience of motherhood to guide her sculptures.

About the artists:

Eltayeb studied at the College of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Sudan. His studies were interrupted when he was dismissed for political activities and he spent the following years living a nomadic existence in exile, struggling to make a living and continue his artistic practice. For the last 15 years Eltayeb has been living in Nairobi and is renowned for his inventive use of materials.

Safina Kimbokota is a permanent artist in residence at the Department of Creative Arts at the University of Dar-es-salaam and also has a studio at Nafasi Art Space. She is a contemporary sculptress; she does metal sculptures that she skillfully mixed with fabric along with painting.
