Shiija Masele is a painter and special effects make up artist based in Dar es salaam, Tanzania.

"Art teaches me a lot about what happens in society. the way people live, the politics of their societies, their social lives. Through art across the world you can understand what is happening in different parts of the world."

She implores the viewers of her work to examine everything they see more deeply. It's about textures, distance and proximity, darkness and light.
